Remote neurofeedback therapy in Maine — guided by your psychiatrist.
Myndlift-powered EEG brain training for ADHD, anxiety, PTSD, and depression. Evidence-informed. Done at home. Clinician-monitored.
What is neurofeedback?
Neurofeedback is a form of biofeedback that trains the brain using real-time EEG (electroencephalogram) data. During a session, sensors on your scalp measure your brainwave activity and feed that signal into software that rewards desired patterns — typically through audio or visual cues. Over time, this gentle, repetitive training helps the brain learn to self-regulate more effectively.
Neurofeedback has been studied for decades and has accumulated the strongest evidence for ADHD, where it is recognized as a level-5 (strongest) evidence-based intervention by the American Academy of Pediatrics for children, with growing adult evidence as well. It is also used as a complementary approach for anxiety, PTSD, depression, and sleep difficulties.
How Nicholas Eddy, PMHNP integrates neurofeedback
Neurofeedback at Northwest Psychiatry is never a standalone product — it is offered selectively as part of a broader, individualized psychiatric care plan. Nicholas reviews your clinical presentation, diagnosis, and treatment goals to determine whether Myndlift neurofeedback is a good fit. If it is, you receive a Muse EEG headband and access to the Myndlift app, and Nicholas monitors your session data remotely and adjusts protocols as needed.
What to expect
Enrollment & setup
After your provider determines neurofeedback is appropriate, you'll be enrolled in the Myndlift program. Your Muse headband will be configured and you'll receive a walkthrough of the app and protocol.
Initial training phase
Early sessions focus on calibration. Most patients don't notice changes immediately — neurofeedback is cumulative. Aim for consistency: 3–5 sessions per week as recommended.
Measurable changes
Most patients begin to notice subjective improvements in focus, reactivity, or sleep quality around the 20–30 session mark. Your provider will review your session data at follow-up appointments.
Protocol refinement & completion
Based on your response, Nicholas may adjust protocols, increase session targets, or taper training. A full course typically involves 40–60 sessions, though this varies by condition and goals.

Frequently asked questions
Is neurofeedback covered by insurance?
Neurofeedback is generally not covered by most insurance plans as a standalone service. Myndlift remote neurofeedback costs are separate from your psychiatric appointments. Ask about current pricing during your evaluation.
Do I need a Muse headband, and who provides it?
Yes, Myndlift uses the Muse 2 or Muse S EEG headband. The headband is either provided through your enrollment or purchased separately. Your provider will explain the options at the time of enrollment.
How is remote neurofeedback different from in-office neurofeedback?
Traditional neurofeedback requires weekly clinic visits with a technician. Myndlift remote neurofeedback lets you train at home on your own schedule — more sessions per week, more convenience, and lower cost — while keeping a licensed clinician in the loop via remote monitoring.
Can children receive neurofeedback through Northwest Psychiatry?
Northwest Psychiatry primarily serves adult patients (18+). If you are inquiring about neurofeedback for a minor, please call (360) 342-6445 to discuss whether accommodations can be made.
Is neurofeedback safe?
Yes. Neurofeedback is non-invasive and has an excellent safety profile. No electrical current is applied to the brain — the EEG sensors only measure existing brainwave activity. Side effects are rare but can include temporary fatigue or mild headache after sessions, particularly early in training.
What if I'm already on medication — can I still do neurofeedback?
Yes. Neurofeedback and psychiatric medications are fully compatible. In fact, combining them often produces better outcomes than either approach alone. Your provider will take your current medications into account when designing your neurofeedback protocol.
